Boost post vs Ads Manager: the difference in plain words

31 October 2026

When you post on Instagram or Facebook, there is a blue button inviting you to boost it. It looks easy. At the same time, people talk about Meta Ads Manager as the proper way to run ads. So many owners wonder which one to use.

Both tools belong to Meta. Both enter the same ad auction and are billed through the same ad account. A boosted post is not a fake ad. The real difference is how much control you have over it.

We are a team of four in Kordelio, Thessaloniki, and we hear this question often. Here is the difference in plain words, so you can choose what suits your business.

When boosting a post is fine

The Boost button is not bad; it exists for a reason. When you boost a post on Instagram, you get a short menu of goals, such as profile visits, website visits or messages, and simple audience choices: a suggested audience, or one set by location, age, gender and interests.

Boosting is a fine choice when:

Boosts do have limits. You cannot pick placements one by one. Once a post is boosted, its text and video cannot be edited; only the audience, budget and duration. And tracking of sales and leads is limited, which is why boosts suit engagement, messages and visits best.

Where Ads Manager is better

Meta Ads Manager is built for businesses that need more control. It works on three levels: campaign, ad set and ad. For how budgets work, see our guide to Instagram ads cost.

Ads Manager is the better choice when you need:

How we manage your Meta ads

Our advice is simple. If you only boost a post now and then for messages or profile visits, keep doing that. If you spend money every month and want bookings or sales, it is time to move to Ads Manager.

At Cultivate, Costas, our brand and growth strategist, runs our Facebook and Instagram ads management in Ads Manager. He sets up the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, builds your audiences and explains the results in plain words in a monthly report.

Meta ads management costs €90 a month for an ad budget up to €500, and €130 a month for €500 to €1,500, excluding 24% VAT. It is a fixed fee, never a percentage of your spend. You pay the ad budget directly to Meta with your own card, and we suggest at least €300 a month. Every monthly package also includes Meta Ads: Launch €290, Grow €510, Scale €700 and Thrive €850. We work month to month with no contracts.

Frequently asked questions

Does a boosted post go into a different auction?

No. Boosted posts and Ads Manager campaigns enter the same ad auction and are billed through the same ad account. A boosted post is not a lesser kind of ad. The only difference is how much control you get when you set it up and manage it.

Can I edit my post’s text after boosting it?

No. Once a post is boosted, its text and video are locked. You can only change the audience, the budget and the duration. In Meta Ads Manager, the text, headline and call to action stay editable.

Can I use my existing posts in Ads Manager?

Yes. You do not always need a brand new ad. In Ads Manager you can select an existing post from your Instagram or Facebook page and use it inside a proper campaign, with the full audience and tracking controls.

How much do you charge to run ads in Ads Manager?

A fixed fee, never a percentage of your ad spend. Management on its own is €90 a month for budgets up to €500 and €130 for €500 to €1,500, excluding 24% VAT. You pay your ad budget directly to Meta with your own card, and we suggest at least €300 a month.
